This strategic choice followed a stellar career in Dutch program races ranging from 200 to 800 km. With their current small-scale loft setup, they can only participate in One Loft Races with limited numbers, enforcing an extremely strict selection process—only the very best are retained. It’s striking how often the Mantel name appears in the top ten of various finals and ace pigeon rankings. Their old champions, Olympic Amador and Vardy, now form the foundation for their continued success in OLR final races.
Vardy has left a significant mark as one of the best One Loft Race breeders worldwide over the past year. A child of his previously secured 3rd place in the Corabia Winter OLR final in 2022. Grandchildren of Vardy have already achieved notable results in the prestigious Algarve Golden Race, including 7th and 18th places in the final.

Alexio, another top performer and grandson of Vardy, has emerged as the next potential cornerstone of the Mantel breeding line. Alexio himself won 7th place in the Algarve Golden Race final and bred notable offspring including the 27th in the Corabia Winter Race and 35th in the Victoria Falls OLR final in 2024. Frits and Wytse Mantel predict that Alexio will take over from his grandfather, Vardy.
Other enthusiasts have also achieved success with Mantel pigeons in One Loft Races. In 2024, offspring from a Mantel pigeon sold on PIPA contributed to a 1st place finish in the Algarve Great Derby and another descendant produced the 1st ace pigeon and 9th place finisher of the AS Golden Winter Race.
Now available in a PIPA auction are the offspring from special pairs; siblings of top performers in the various One Loft Races, showcasing the continued strength of the Mantel breeding line.
